Two people arrested for vehicle theft, flight from police

Two people have been arrested by RCMP for allegedly fleeing from police following a vehicle theft earlier this week in the western region of the province.

Marshall Dylon Turner, 23, of Beaconsfield, N.B., appeared in Woodstock Provincial Court on Wednesday, where he was charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, breach of probation and flight from police.

He also faces charges related to possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

According to the New Brunswick RCMP, all charges stem from an incident on April 20 when a Ford F-250 had been reported stolen from a home in Nackawic, N.B., 65 kilometres west of Fredericton.

Police later found the truck, which had been spray-painted black, travelling south on Highway 130. The vehicle sped off, driving in and out of oncoming traffic, the RCMP said in a news release.

On April 23, police received a number of reports that the truck had been seen in the Johnville area. The truck was found at a home on South Johnville Road.

“As police approached the truck, two suspects were observed running into a white car that then fled the scene,” said RCMP Sgt. Dan Sharpe in the news release.

“The car was later located in a wooded area nearby, and Police Dog Services tracked the suspects to a well-known residence in the area.”

Sharpe said Turner and a 30-year-old woman were arrested at the scene. The woman, who is also from Beaconsfield, N.B., has not been identified or charged.

Turner was remanded into custody.

He is scheduled to return to court on April 25.
