Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, undergoing treatment for cancer

LONDON, U.K. — The Princess of Wales, who has been facing months of speculation about her health, broke her silence Friday, announcing she has been diagnosed with cancer and is in the early stages of treatment.

In a video statement, Kate Middleton said it has been an incredibly tough couple of months for her family. She said the cancer was discovered after she underwent abdominal surgery in January. She did not elaborate on what kind of cancer she has been diagnosed with.

After taking time to recover from the procedure, she has now started to undergo chemotherapy.

“William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” she said in the video.

Middleton’s whereabouts have been the source of much speculation in recent weeks, as she had not been seen or heard from publicly since Christmas.

She said it’s taken time for her to recover and explain the situation to her children, George, Charlotte and Louis, in a way that’s appropriate for them.

“As I’ve said to them, I am well, and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal,” she said in the video.

She said the family is now asking for some “time, space and privacy” as she undergoes treatment.

King Charles III was also diagnosed with cancer earlier this year after a procedure for an enlarged prostate.

The Royal Family also has not shared details about what kind of cancer the King has.
