Moncton man to spend 2 years in jail for drug trafficking

A Moncton man arrested more than three years ago as part of an ongoing drug investigation will spend the next two years behind bars.

Kevin Gionet, 48, of Moncton, was sentenced last month to two years plus a day in jail after he pleaded guilty to charges of possessing meth and hydromorphone for trafficking purposes.

Charges were laid after the New Brunswick RCMP seized various types of drugs, contraband cigarettes and money during an ongoing drug investigation that began in December 2020.

Police searched a home along Route 132 in Greater Lakeburn, N.B., on Feb. 16, 2021, where they seized several drug types, including crystal meth, hydromorphone pill, gun ammunition, a prohibited weapon, contraband cigarettes, money and drug-trafficking paraphernalia.

Gionet was arrested in connection with the investigation.

Mounties said Wednesday he will be subjected to a 10-year firearms prohibition upon his release from jail.
