The New Brunswick RCMP has arrested a 19-year-old man that trigger an Alert Ready message to be issued in Sussex, N.B., on Remembrance Day.
Mounties said an Alert Ready message was issued early Saturday morning after a report of shots fired near a business on Main Street in Sussex.
“Residents of Sussex were asked to remain inside with doors locked, and others to avoid the area as there was an individual carrying a firearm with dangerous intent,” said RCMP Cpl. Hans Ouellette in a statement.
According to the Alert Ready message, the suspect was described as a 19-year-old man who wore a blue coat and grey jogging pants.
“Shortly after the Alert Ready was issued, police located and arrested the suspect without further incident,” said Ouellette.
Police said one person sustained serious but non life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident.
The Alert Ready was cancelled at 3 a.m. and residents were advised that they could now resume normal activities.
“We will share more information as we are able to,” said Ouellette.
“The RCMP would like to thank the public for their cooperation during this incident.”
