Several young men tried to rob a pizza delivery driver on Saturday in Saint John’s north end, according to police.
Officers said in a news release Tuesday they responded around 12:45 a.m. to the area of Cunard Street and Waring Street.
Police spokesperson Sean Rocca said the 57-year-old victim was approached by several men, described as being between 17 to 21 years old who wore masks and hoodies.
“The suspects demanded money and assaulted the victim with a chemical irritant,” Rocca said in a news release.
“They then fled down a set of stairs, across Main Street and towards Kennedy Street.”
Rocca said the victim was treated by paramedics, but police could not find the suspects in the area.
Investigators are now appealing for witnesses or anyone in the area that has video footage of the incident at the time it occurred.
One suspect was described as a white man with a slim build who stands about six-foot. He wore dark clothing and was armed with a weapon.
Another suspect was described as white with a medium complexion, dark curly hair and also armed with a weapon.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Saint John Police Force or Crime Stoppers.
