Police ID body pulled from Saint John river in September

Police in Saint John have identified a body pulled from the Wolastoq (Saint John River) in September.

Emergency crews responded at around 1 p.m. on Sept. 1 after fishermen had found a dead body on the Saint John River.

In an update issued Wednesday, police spokesperson Sean Rocca said the remains were identified as belonging to a 50-year-old man.

“At the request of the family, the Saint John Police will not be releasing the name of the deceased,” he said in a statement.

“The Saint John Police sends our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased at this most difficult time.”

Rocca said investigators do not believe the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are criminal in nature.

Police said the man was from Saint John.
