CALGARY — Officials from WestJet confirmed Friday it will fold its sister company Sunwing into the main airline by October 2024.
The company said planning and integration activities are already well underway, with the end goal of meeting the “diverse” travel needs of Canadians.
“Integration work will prioritize a seamless transition for Sunwing’s customers and employees as we work together to bring enhanced sun and leisure offerings to communities across the country and ensure jobs for those transferring to WestJet from Sunwing Airlines,” said CEO Alexis von Hoenbroech.
It comes as WestJet finishes its integration of Swoop, the company’s low-budget airline, which is expected to be completed by Oct. 28.
Officials said the planned integration will have no impact on Sunwing Vacations Group and its associated vacations brands.
The targeted completion of integration will remain flexible, while federal partners on timelines and details.
