A provincial court judge handed down a five-year sentence for a New Brunswick man who pleaded guilty last week to making child pornography.
George Patrick Derrick, 53, of Fredericton, was charged earlier this year with two counts of sexual interference, and one count of sexual assault, possessing child pornography, and making child pornography.
It follows an investigation by the New Brunswick RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit following tips from the public.
Mounties searched a home in Fredericton in October 2022, arresting Smith and seizing several electronic devices.
He appeared in Fredericton Provincial Court in January to be charged and was remanded into custody.
During a sentencing hearing on Aug. 24, Smith pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to five years behind bars.
Police said Friday that Smith must register with the National Sex Offender Registry following his release from prison.
