Saint John charged in uptown weapons incident

Saint John police said a 45-year-old man faces firearms charges after carrying an armed weapon in the city’s uptown last week.

Officers responded shortly after noon last Monday to Waterloo Street for a report of a man armed with a rifle.

“On arrival, officers located the 45-year-old suspect matching the description provided by the caller,” said police spokesperson Sean Rocca.

“The suspect was arrested and found in possession of a .22 calibre rifle, ammunition and knives, all of which were seized.”

No injuries were reported, police said.

The accused, who has not been named, appeared in court on Aug. 8 and was charged with unauthorized possession of a non-restricted firearm.

He was released on an undertaking before his next day in court this September.
