Police don’t suspect foul play in the death of a Saint John man whose body was found floating in the Wolastoq (Saint John River).
Emergency crews were called on Saturday morning following a report about a cyclist who had found a body on the shoreline of Harbour Passage, near the bottom of Bentley Street.
An autopsy conducted at the Saint John Regional Hospital leads police to believe the man may have washed ashore from the river.
“As a result of further investigation, the deceased was identified as a 42-year-old man,” said police force spokesperson Sean Rocca in a statement issued on Tuesday.
“At the request of the family, the identity of the deceased will not be released.”
City police say the Major Crime Unit and the Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the death and have ruled out criminality.
“The Saint John Police offers our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased individual,” said Rocca.
