Low pressure system expected to bring heavy rain this week

With a low pressure system expected to move over the Maritimes this week, New Brunswickers will definitely want to pack their umbrellas.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Sunday evening about the potential of heavy rain later this week.

“A low pressure system over the Great Lakes will move over the Maritimes later in the week giving rain, heavy at times, to parts of the region,” reads a statement from the weather agency.

The special weather statement was issued for most of the province, including Saint John, Fredericton and Moncton.

“At this time there is high uncertainty among weather guidance concerning the rainfall amounts and where the heaviest rain may fall,” officials said.

Forecasters say it’s still too soon to predict specific details, but rainfall amounts could exceed 50 millimetres by Tuesday night through Wednesday night.

“Meteorologists are monitoring the system and additional information will be provided as the details become more certain,” the statement reads.
