An 18-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly leaving the scene of a collision that killed an 89-year-old pedestrian.
The New Brunswick RCMP were called late Tuesday night to a collision involving a pedestrian in Baie de Bouctouche, N.B., north of Shediac.
“The pedestrian, an 89-year-old woman, died at the scene as a result of her injuries,” said Richibucto RCMP Cpl Ricky LeBlond.
“The involved vehicle fled the scene before police arrived.”
Police say members later found the vehicle in Bouctouche and arrested an 18-year-old male for allegedly leaving the scene of the collision.
He was released pending further investigation and will appear in court at a later date.
A RCMP collision reconstructionist, the RCMP Forensic Identification Section and member of the New Brunswick Coroner’s office are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the woman’s exact cause of death.
Anyone who has information that could help further the investigation is asked to contact Richibucto RCMP at 506-523-4611.
