19-year-old charged in Charlotte County armed robbery

One person has been charged for allegedly robbing a business in Charlotte County.

Megal Carl Frederick Sargefield, 19, appeared Tuesday in Saint John Provincial Court, where he was charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence.

It comes after the New Brunswick RCMP was called at around 2:20 p.m. Monday following a report of an individual, armed with a knife, entering a business on Main Street in Upper Letang, near St. George, and attempting to steal alcohol.

“The individual then fled the scene before police arrived,” said St. George RCMP Sgt. Chris Henderson in a news release issued Wednesday.

“No one was injured during the incident.”

Police say they arrested Sargefield at a home in St. George and also recovered the weapon used.

Investigators say he was released on conditions and is slated to return to court on Aug. 29.
