Justice officials keep mum on inmate death

New Brunswick justice officials have released few details about the death of an inmate last month.

The province announced in a news release that an inmate, identified only as a man in his 30s, died on June 24 while on supervised release from the Southeast Regional Correctional Centre in Shediac, N.B.

Adult Custody Services became aware of his passing on July 25.

Officials say the man had been serving an intermittent sentence, but did not state why he was serving time.

The man is not being identified at this time by request of his next of kin.

Government says a coroner’s inquest will be held and a date will be set once all relevant investigations are complete.
