Two Saint John beaches temporarily closed due to E. coli

Two Saint John beaches are currently off limits to the public due to high levels of E. coli, city officials said Thursday.

The City of Saint John said in a release that Lily Lake and Tucker Park are temporarily closed for swimming.

According to the release, a recent test conducted by New Brunswick Public Health indicated high samples of E. coli bacteria.

“Warning signs have been posted at both locations and lifeguard services will remain in place at Lily Lake to advise the public and ensure the safety of visitors,” the city said.

“Both swimming areas will remain closed until deemed safe by health officials.”

Officials say further testing will be conducted early next week, adding the city will provide updates to the public as they become available.
