A 22-year-old Fredericton man was arrested and charged last week for “significant” spray paint vandalism and graffiti throughout the city.
Officers say the arrest occurred on June 27 and was a joint operation between the force’s Integrated Community Services, Street Crime and Patrol teams, supported by the RCMP and the City of Fredericton’s Community Safety Services Unit.
“Following the arrest, [Fredericton police] executed a search warrant on the dwelling of the individual arrested, seizing evidence of graffiti-related items and communication devices,” reads a news release.
The arrest comes as Fredericton police report a significant increase in graffiti vandalism across the city.
Between January and June, there were 210 reported occurrences of graffiti reported to Fredericton Police, a major jump from the 131 incidents reported in 2022 and the 43 cases reported in 2021.
Police say the man was charged with several mischief counts and was released on a court undertaking to appear at a later date.
