An investigation has been launched into an allegation of sexual assault made against a member of the Canadian Forces Snowbirds.
The Department of National Defence issued a statement Saturday to confirm the Royal Canadian Air Force is aware of the matter and the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service is looking into the case.
“The RCAF takes all allegations of this nature seriously and is cooperating with investigators fully,” the statement reads.
“The privacy and well-being of the Affected Person, also a member of the CAF, is of the utmost priority to us.”
Army officials say names and specific details are being withheld while the independent investigation takes place.
The DND says the Snowbirds pilot has been reassigned to non-operational duties at 15 Wing Moose Jaw while the investigation takes place.
The Snowbirds are scheduled to perform in Moncton, N.B., this weekend, but poor weather cancelled Saturday’s show.
“As a result of this investigation, the Canadian Forces Snowbirds will perform air displays as an eight-aircraft team for the foreseeable future,” officials said.
