Police in St. Stephen, N.B., say they arrested a 32-year-old man from Campobello Island last week after investigating a recent property crime.
Mounties said Tuesday officers responded at around 9:15 a.m. on May 16 after a member of the St. Stephen detachment observed a suspicious vehicle in the driveway of a burned house on Pleasant Street in St. Stephen, N.B.
According to police, a man was seen removing wiring from the house.
“The member approached the man and observed what was believed to be methamphetamine in his possession,” reads a news release from the force.
“Police towed the vehicle and the man was arrested at the scene.”
Following a vehicle search last week, investigators say they seized quantities of methamphetamine, drug trafficking paraphernalia and several previously stolen items, including Dewalt power tools.
Investigators say the man has been released and has his first appearance in Saint John Provincial Court on Oct. 17.
The investigation is ongoing, so anyone with information about, or who suspects, illegal activity is asked to contact their local police or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
