McDonald’s pledges support in wildfire recovery

TORONTO — Additional support to battle major wildfires across Alberta, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Ontario is coming from the least likely of sources.

McDonald’s Canada announced Wednesday that it will make an additional donation through its partnership with the Canadian Red Cross to better support evacuees and relief efforts in affected communities.

“We also know that some of our McDonald’s Canada team members have been affected by the fires,” the company said. “And so, as we have for over 55 years, we’ll rally together to support our local franchisees, their teams and communities in times of disaster.”

McDonald’s Canada said some of its independent franchisees and restaurant teams have been working hard to show their support, such as offering meals and gift cards to displaced families, firefighters and military personnel.

According to international news agency Reuters, at least 120,000 Canadians have been displaced by the fires.
