Police investigate attempted robbery in St. Stephen

An attempted robbery in the St. Stephen area has prompted an investigation by the New Brunswick RCMP.

In a Friday news release, Mounties said members of the St. Stephen detachment responded at around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday to an attempted robbery on King Street in St. Stephen.

“A woman had been walking her dog when she was approached by a man with an aluminum baseball bat who demanded money from the woman before fleeing the scene,” police said in the release, adding the woman was not hurt.

The St. Stephen RCMP is now asking for the public’s help identifying a person of interest. Police are releasing surveillance footage of the man in hopes that, despite the quality, someone may recognize him.

The RCMP says the male suspect is described as being in his early to mid-20s and stands about five feet seven inches tall.

He also has a small build and short orange hair and wore a long-sleeve red shirt, jeans and work boots.

Those who witnessed the incident, recognize the suspect, or have other information, can contact the St. Stephen RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
