Mounties issue 15 tickets, 13 warnings during April traffic stops

Mounties say they handed out 15 tickets and 13 warnings during traffic stops around Hampton and Sussex.

Mounties say they handed out 15 tickets and 13 warnings in late April during traffic enforcement operations in several areas around Hampton and Sussex.

Officers say the traffic stops — which took place on April 27 in urban and rural areas of Hampton, Sussex, Damascus, Willow Grove, Upper Loch Lomond and Belleisle — also resulted in charges and arrests. In total, police stopped 147 vehicles.

According to a news release, 15 tickets were issued for a variety of traffic offences, as well as 13 written warnings. Six drivers were charged — three for driving while impaired and three for driving while suspended.

One person was arrested for fleeing from police, and another was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

“This enforcement operation was the result of complaints we have received from the public about reoccurring issues in these areas,” said Sgt. Tyson Nelson of the Hampton RCMP Detachment.

“Our goal is always to keep the public safe by limiting the number of dangerous drivers on our roadways.”
