Fire causes ‘significant damage’ to Grand Bay-Westfield home

An early morning fire caused significant damages Thursday to a home in Grand Bay-Westfield, N.B.

The Saint John Firefighters Association confirmed on social media that five of its crews responded to the blaze on Westfield Road.

“Firefighters forced entry inside the home attempting to attack the fire, however, command was forced to call an emergency evacuation of all crews due to rapidly deteriorating conditions,” first responders said in the post.

“A second alarm was struck bringing more firefighters to the scene.”

Firefighters say crews worked throughout the morning trying to contain the fire, but said the home sustained significant damage. Crews remained on scene throughout the morning to contain hotspots.

There is no word on what caused the fire.
