Strong winds knock out power to most of N.B.

Almost 52,000 people are without power Monday afternoon due to strong winds affecting most of New Brunswick.

According to NB Power’s website, 42,075 New Brunswickers were knocked off the grid as of 12:20 p.m. on Monday. Outages have mostly been reported in the Central York Sunbury, Charlotte Southwest and Kent County power grids.

Those regions include areas like Fredericton and Oromocto, Saint Stephen and St. George, and parts of the Kennebecasis Valley.

Meanwhile, Saint John Energy is reporting that around 9,648 residents are without power Monday. Most of those outages, the utility said, are concentrated on the city’s lower west side and the southern peninsula.

Crews from both utilities say most residents can expect electricity to be restored by late Monday afternoon.
