A search carried out by police in west Saint John on Wednesday uncovered more evidence for an investigation into a “shots fired” incident.
Officers were called to Duke Street West at around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday to a report of shots fired inside a building. Police blocked off traffic during the incident and told residents to stay inside.
The operation ended roughly three hours later when four people were taken into custody.
Police said Wednesday a search of the property uncovered a shotgun and additional evidence.
“A 32-year-old man who had been arrested on April 25, 2023, appeared in court on April 26, 2023, charged with unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited, careless use of a firearm, and unsafe storage of a firearm,” police said in a statement.
“He was remanded to custody and scheduled to return to court on April 27, 2023, for a bail hearing.”
Investigators say the three other people arrested on Tuesday were released from custody.
A 36-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were arrested for weapons charges but have been released from custody on undertakings to return to court on July 25. Meanwhile, a 64-year-old man was released without charges.
Police say the Major Crime Unit is continuing its investigation, asking anyone with information to call police.
