The City of Dieppe has plans to increase transit service and possibly reduce its carbon footprint with electric buses.
A release says officials want to address the city’s transportation needs immediately, citing Dieppe’s strong population growth over the past year and a new record for real estate construction.
The city currently offers three bus routes through Codiac Transpo, which also provides service to Moncton and Riverview, but proposed adding three more and increasing bus frequency to every 15 minutes during peak times. Dieppe says it also wants to reduce its environmental footprint while providing reliable public transportation.
“By optimizing transit service, we aim to provide residents with an affordable and reliable alternative to automobiles for their travel needs,” said Jérémie Aubé, the City of Dieppe’s urban mobility director, in the news release.
Increased transit service would also reduce the number of cars on the road, which Aubé said would “have an impact on traffic, as well as road maintenance and quality.”
