Assault, Weapon Charges Laid Following Altercation

A 58-year-old man has been charged after an assault in a community near Balmoral, N.B.

Campbellton RCMP responded at around 2 p.m. Thursday to an altercation at a home on Saint-Maure Road.

“When police arrived, they discovered that an altercation between three people had occurred at the residence, and a firearm had been discharged at a vehicle,” said Campbellton RCMP Sgt. Francois Côté in a statement.

“A 64-year-old woman from Balmoral sustained what are believed to be minor injuries during the altercation, and was transported to hospital.”

Mounties say a 58-year-old man and a 65-year-old man were arrested, but the 65-year-old was released.

Philippe Guindon, 58, appeared in Campbellton Provincial Court on Monday, where a judge handed him two counts of discharging a firearm with intent and assault causing bodily harm.

Police say he was released on conditions and will return to court on April 17.
