A 20-year-old Saint John man was stabbed early Saturday morning in an attack that police say involved three people.
Officers were called to Princess Street at around 12:50 a.m. after they received a report of a 20-year-old man who had been stabbed.
Police found the victim laying on the sidewalk and was taken to hospital, where he is currently being treated for serious injuries.
“After speaking with witnesses, officers entered a nearby bar and arrested a 19-year-old man for aggravated assault,” said Saint John Police Force Staff Sgt. Sean Rocca in a statement.
“He was later released from custody on an undertaking to appear in court on June 13, 2023.”
Investigators now believe the attack involved at least two other suspects and want the public’s help to identify them.
Obtained photographs depict the first suspect as a slim white male believed to be 20 to 30 years old.
He wore a dark ball cap with a white logo and had long hair curling at the back. He also wore a black sweatshirt, light jeans, and black and white sneakers.
Meanwhile, police also describe the second suspect as a slim white man between 20 and 30 years old and taller than the first suspect.
He has a closely cropped beard and wore a red ball cap with a logo, along with light jeans sagging significantly below the waist, a black sweatshirt with a white logo, and white sneakers.
The second suspect was seen with another man wearing rubber boots.
“There were reportedly multiple people in the area at the time the incident,” said Rocca.
“Investigators are appealing for witnesses or anyone in the area that has photographs or video of the incident at the time it occurred.”
Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to contact the Saint John Police Force at 1-506-648-3333 or Crime Stoppers.
