Work is underway in the Town of Sussex to secure a new coat of arms, flag and crest.
A release says town council has sent an application to the Canadian Heraldic Authority through the Chief Herald of Canada’s office, a division of the Governor General of Canada’s office.
Officials proposed a citizens committee — appointed by Sussex council — would develop an identity that welcomes all three areas that form the municipality.
“Sussex Council has also begun the process of establishing and appointing a citizens committee to work through the important process,” said the town in a notice.
“We have a unique opportunity to begin our new community and to set the identification of this new community.”
The Town of Sussex says it is accepting applications to become a volunteer on the Sussex Heritage Committee, which will form part of the six-member committee.
A timeline and a link to submit applications can be found here.
