Company-Wide Layoffs At N.B. Broadcaster

A New Brunswick broadcaster announced company-wide layoffs Wednesday affecting 11 staff members.

Acadia Broadcasting, which operates 18 radio stations in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Ontario, as well as the online business magazine Huddle, confirmed the news in a press release.

The company’s New Brunswick stations include Country 94 and 97.3 The Wave in Saint John, Charlotte FM in St. Stephen, and 91.9 The Bend in Moncton.

“The consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic since 2020 have been many,” said the company in the release.

“Like many others, we have had to adjust our business to today’s reality.”

Chris Pearson, president of Acadia Broadcasting, said the news is unfortunate, but noted his company is proud of its record of community engagement.

He added that he believes Acadia will continue to entertain, educate and inform the listeners in the markets they serve.
