A five-month investigation into the death of 39-year-old Justin Breau ended Wednesday after police in Saint John arrested three men in connection with his murder.
City police say officers responded at around 3:57 p.m. on Aug. 17, 2022, to a stabbing at an apartment building on Charles Street in the city’s uptown.
Investigators said at the time that three unidentified masked men, who wore dark clothing, forced their way into an apartment unit and stabbed Breau, who later died in hospital.
Officers say 47-year-old Charles William Shatford appeared in court on Wednesday, where a judge charged him with first-degree murder.
Police remanded Shatford to jail until Feb. 10.
Meanwhile, investigators also arrested a 24-year-old man and a 50-year-old man, both of whom remain in police custody. Both men face a day in court on Thursday.
