Weekend Fire In Woodstock Claims Two Lives

Two people are dead after an early morning house fire in the Woodstock area.

Members of the Woodstock Police Force and the Woodstock Fire Department responded at around 1:31 a.m. to the structure fire at 732 Main Street.

“While combing through the structure after the fire, the bodies of two persons were discovered,” said Gary Forward, chief of the Woodstock Police Force.

Police did not identify those killed in the fire but said they are working with several organizations, including the Fredericton Police Force Forensics team, to establish the source and cause of the fire.

Forward said residents can expect officers to remain in the area over the next several days to canvass the neighbourhood for video surveillance footage and eyewitness testimony.

Police ask motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area and follow traffic detours.

Anyone in the area at the time of the fire or who may have information can contact the Woodstock Police Force at (506) 325-4601 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
