Fredericton residents now know the location of the city’s new performing arts centre.
Council confirmed Monday night that the corner of King and Regent streets is the home of the capital’s new Performing Arts Centre (PAC).
Mayor Kate Rogers said the PAC has been the city’s top infrastructure priority for several years.
“Choosing a location is a key step that leads to several other phases including detailed design and getting us closer to shovels in the ground,” said Rogers.
The city says the location, situated next to the new provincial justice building being built by the Government of New Brunswick, is also supported by the Fredericton Playhouse Board.
Tim Yerxa, executive director of the Fredericton Playhouse, said the PAC’s location “in the heart of downtown Fredericton” is an ideal choice.
“The PAC will be walking distance to other cultural institutions, the Historic Garrison District, restaurants, retail and hotels,” he said.
“All … will benefit from the activity that will be happening in this exciting new space.”
Council did not provide a timeline as to when the construction of the PAC would be complete.
