Mounties Investigate Mailbox Thefts

Multiple instances of mail theft and damage to community mailboxes across New Brunswick have prompted an investigation by the provincial RCMP.

Mounties say they received numerous reports over the last few months about community mailboxes that were forced open and the mail stolen.

Investigators say the thefts appear to happen in the evening and overnight hours. Cases were reported in Moncton, Saint John, Fredericton and Oromocto, and their surrounding areas.

Police believe there are several individuals involved.

“We working closely with Canada Post to find those responsible for these damages and thefts,” said New Brunswick RCMP Cpl. Hans Ouellette.

“You can help limit the impact of these incidents by making sure to collect your mail daily, especially if you are expecting a package or important letter.”

Anyone with information about these incidents, who sees suspicious activity or is a recent victim of mail theft, should contact their local police or Crime Stoppers.
