Emergency crews responded early Saturday afternoon to a two-vehicle collision involving two ATVs near McAdam, N.B. that left a 61-year-old man dead.
Mounties got the call at around 1:20 p.m. at a service trail near Saunders Road, next to the railway. The McAdam Fire Department and Ambulance New Brunswick also responded.
One of the ATV drivers died at the scene, while the other was taken to hospital with what police believe to be non-life-threatening injuries.
“The collision is believed to have occurred when the first ATV, travelling parallel to the train tracks, would have been struck by a second ATV, travelling on an intersecting trail,” said the RCMP.
“The first ATV is believed to have rolled over as a result of the collision.”
Police say an RCMP collision reconstructionist and the New Brunswick Coroner’s office will assist with the investigation, which remains ongoing.
A scheduled autopsy will determine the man’s exact cause of death.
