Grand Bay-Westfield Crosswalk Honours Truth And Reconciliation

The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield, N.B., installed an orange crosswalk in the main area of the town in honour of Truth and Reconciliation.

The crosswalk, located on Woolastook Drive near the Veterans Peace Park, features seven feathers representing the Seven Grandfather Teachings adopted by Indigenous communities.

“The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield remains committed to taking steps on its path towards Truth and Reconciliation,” said Brittany Merrifield, mayor of Grand Bay-Westfield.

“This crosswalk is a symbol of the strength and courage of residential school survivors, as well as a tribute to those lives lost.”

It is the fourth measure to be implemented following the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action, first introduced in 2015.
