A popular swimming area in Fredericton was closed for several hours Sunday as first responders investigated a possible drowning.
Fredericton police and fire responded at around 8 p.m. on Aug. 6 to Killarney Lake after a report of a missing swimmer.
The search continued into Sunday afternoon until dive teams at the scene confirmed they had recovered the body of a male in his mid-40s.
“No further information will be released at this time as the matter is still being investigated,” said the Fredericton Police Force in a news release.
“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Police say the beach and trail system was closed during the initial rescue effort. It stayed closed while the investigation took place.
Both areas have since reopened, according to the City of Fredericton.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Fredericton Police Force or Crime Stoppers.
