A 25-year-old man from Saint Andrews, N.B., will serve nine months in jail and 18 months of probation after pleading guilty to charges stemming from an investigation into child pornography.
The investigation, led by the New Brunswick RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit, began in October 2020 after information from the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Crime Centre.
Police searched a home located on on Queen Street in Saint Andrews on April 20, 2021. Officers seized several electronic devices and a man was arrested at the scene.
Kyle Murray Buchanan appeared in Saint John Provincial Court on July 16, 2021 and was charged with possession of child pornography.
He was released on strict conditions and subsequently pled guilty to possession of child pornography.
Buchanan was sentenced on July 21 to nine months in jail, followed by 18 months in probation upon his release.
Buchanan is on the National Sex Offender Registry for 10 years and will be required to submit a DNA sample. Following his release, he must also abide by conditions set out by the court.
Conditions include not communicating with anyone under the age of 16 and not attending any place where someone under the age of 16 is known to be for 5 years.
