Another Death In N.B. Hospital ER, Says Vitalité

Health officials with the Vitalité Health Network announced Monday morning a person died at the Emergency Department of the Edmundston Regional Hospital following a “tragic event.”

The network said the person, who had been admitted to the Emergency Department on July 24, lost their life under “unforeseeable and exceptional circumstances.”

It is the second incident to take place in a New Brunswick hospital emergency room after a death in the waiting room of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton, N.B.

Vitalité said no employees or members of the medical staff were injured during the incident and acknowledges the professionalism of its staff in handling the incident.

“The Network extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” said Dr. France Desrosiers, president and CEO of the Vitalité Health Network.

The network will not provide further details on the death, citing confidentiality and an ongoing “comprehensive internal root cause assessment” of the incident.

“The network also collaborates with police authorities and the coroner in their respective investigations,” said Dr. Desrosiers.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones as well as our brave staff at the Edmundston Regional Hospital.”
