Miramichi Voters Elect Two PC MLAs In Byelections

Voters in two northern New Brunswick ridings have elected two more Progressive Conservatives to represent them in the provincial legislature during Monday’s byelection.

Réjean Savoie won his seat for Miramichi Bay-Neguac, while Mike Dawson took the top spot for Southwest Miramichi-Bay du Vin. The PCs now have 30 seats in the legislature, the Liberals have 16 and the Greens have three.

Savoie previously served as the MLA for Miramichi Bay from 1999 to 2003 under the Bernard Lord government. Dawson is a former small business owner who founded Dawson’s Painting and Drywall.

The PCs, Liberals, Greens and the People’s Alliance had candidates in both ridings. There was also an Independent candidate in the Miramichi Bay-Neguac riding.

More than 42 per cent of eligible voters cast their ballots.
