N.B. Unemployment Rate Falls 7%: StatsCan

Statistics Canada says New Brunswick’s unemployment rate fell seven-tenths of a per cent to sit at 7 per cent last month.

Statistics Canada says the provincial economy added 3,900 net full-time and 2,800 net part-time jobs in April, which was offset slightly by an increase of 4,300 people in the labour force.

The biggest gains were in the educational services sector, while the public administration sector saw the largest losses.

StatsCan says Canada’s economy added 15,300 new jobs, which pulled the national unemployment rate down one-tenth of a per cent to a new low of 5.2 per cent.

The number of people working in retail fell by 22,000 and those working in construction dropped by 21,000.
