Six Arrested, Drugs Seized After Elsipogtog Home Search

Six people were arrested Thursday after a drug trafficking investigation in Elsipogtog.

The New Brunswick RCMP searched a home on Riverside Drive shortly after 11 a.m. on April 28. Police seized what is believed to be crack cocaine, cocaine and drug trafficking paraphernalia, including digital scales and money.

Four individuals were later released.

Police say 47-year-old Rhona Melissa Joseph and 56-year-old Mark Blackburn appeared in Moncton Provincial Court on April 29 through tele-remand. Both were charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Joseph was remanded into custody and has her bail hearing scheduled for May 2 at 2 p.m.

Blackburn was released on strict conditions, including not to be seen in the community of Elsipogtog.

He returns to court on May 24 at 9:30 a.m.

The RCMP says the investigation was carried out by the Provincial Crime Reduction Unit, which includes the New Brunswick RCMP and Fredericton Police Force. Members of Elsipogtog RCMP also helped with the search.

The public is reminded to report any suspicious drug activity to local police or Crime Stoppers.

An investigation into the case remains ongoing.
