The New Brunswick RCMP’s Major Crime Unit is investigating after an 18-year-old man was shot dead outside a home in Moncton.
RCMP Cpl. Hans Ouellette says officers were called to a home on Logan Lane shortly after 6 a.m. on Monday after reports of shots being fired. A vehicle had pulled up to the home and four individuals stepped out.
They approached the home and fired several shots.
The suspects got back into the vehicle and fled the scene in the direction of Mountain Road before police arrived. One man suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital, where he later died.
The victim has since been identified as 18-year-old Joedin Leger.
According to police, another person was home at the time, but was not injured.
The case is now being treated as a homicide.
“We believe this to be an isolated incident, and do not believe the safety of the general public is at risk,” said Ouellette in a news release.
“We are especially interested in speaking to anyone who lives in the area of Logan Lane, Kendra Street and Noel Street and may have video surveillance footage, or who was driving through the area between 1 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on April 25 and may have witnessed the incident or have dash-cam footage.”
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit or Crime Stoppers.
