Police in Miramichi arrested two men on Wednesday for possession of trafficking Benzimidazole.
Benzimidazole, also known as “Shady 8’s”, has been the culprit for a number of overdoses in the past few months. This opioid is a form of Fentanyl that comes in white or green pills.
The Drug Enforcement Unit of the Miramichi Police Force arrested two males for possession for the purpose of trafficking in Benzimidazole. As a result of the arrest, officers seized 203 of the suspected pills.
Joseph Mills appeared before a judge on April 21 and was formally charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking Benzimidazole and possession for the purpose of trafficking Hydromorphone.
Mills was also charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking meth and Benzimidiazole as a result of an arrest in October 2021.
An investigation into the case remains ongoing.
