A suspicious fire destroyed a notable Cap-Pelé area restaurant early Sunday morning.
The Shediac RCMP says they were called to Chez Camille Take Out around 3:30 a.m. and Cap-Pelé’s fire department followed shortly after. When Crews arrived at the scene, the entire building was engulfed in flames.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze by 7 a.m., with the assistance of the Haute-Aboujagane Fire Department.
“No one was hurt, but the building is gone,” wrote Chez Camille in a Facebook post.
According to the restaurant’s website, Chez Camille Take Out has served the Cap-Pelé area for more than 45 years, with their staples being seafood, chicken, burgers and french fries.
The restaurant said they will inform customers about their plans for summer soon. It also thanked the volunteer firefighters for their efforts to save the building.
First responders say the building was vacant at the time of the fire. Nobody was injured, but one firefighter was assessed by paramedics for heat exhaustion.
As of 11 a.m. on Sunday, police and the fire marshal remained at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but police deem it “suspicious in nature.”
It’s the latest in a series of fires that have taken place over the past year, with three destroying smokehouses last August.
Anyone with information about the fires to contact Shediac RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
