Police in Saint John arrested two residents following weapons-related offences in connection to an ongoing investigation Friday afternoon.
Officers stopped a vehicle near Red Head Road shortly before 3 p.m. on April 22 and arrested two individuals. During a vehicle search, police found a loaded .22 calibre handgun, a .22 calibre rifle and ammunition.
Police say they arrested a 32-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man.
Both were arrested for unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a vehicle and possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm with ammunition.
The man was also arrested for possessing a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, possessing a substance believed to be cocaine and violating a probation order.
Both were held in custody and are scheduled to appear in provincial court on April 23.
Members of the Saint John Police Force, the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force Integrated Street Crime Unit, and Patrol Services worked collaboratively for the investigation.
