The Fredericton Police Force says it has made the largest seizure of drugs in its history.
During a search of two storage units, an apartment and a vehicle, officers seized more than 5.5 kilograms of crystal meth, half a kilogram of cocaine and $59,000 in cash. They also recovered five handguns, two rifles, a shotgun, ammo, a taser and one set of brass knuckles.
The value of the seized crystal meth is approximately $560,000.
Police say two people were arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking. The pair face a combined total of 45 criminal charges, and an additional 18 charges under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.
Forty-year-old Kaleb Jeffrey Kennett and 30-year-old Tasheen Brianna Monika Cloake were arrested during a motor vehicle stop on Fredericton’s southside on April 20.
Kennett and Cloake are both charged with:
- One count of possession of firearms contrary to a prohibition order
- One count of proceeds obtained by crime over $5,000
- Two counts of possession of a stolen firearm
- One count of possession of a loaded restricted firearm
- Two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized
- One count of unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
- One count of careless use of a firearm
- One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- One count of possession for trafficking – methamphetamine
- One count of possession for trafficking – cocaine
- One count of possession for trafficking – hydromorphone
- One count of possession for trafficking – oxycodone
- One count of possession for trafficking – morphine
- One count of possession for trafficking – LSD/Acid
- One count of possession for trafficking – psilocybin
- One count of possession for trafficking – methylphenidate
- One count of possession for trafficking – lorazepam
Kennett also faces one charge of failing to comply with a probation order.
Both suspects were held in custody and will return to court on April 25 at 1:30 p.m.
